16-year-old Arsenal player becomes Premier League’s youngest scorer in win over Everton

“It was a great moment, especially the way the goal was scored, we had 10-15 seconds to enjoy what was about to happen,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

“It was magical, all the fans and players were jumping over the crowd together. It was a beautiful day.

“We create memories and moments, and for years to come people who were here tonight will say I was there when that 16-year-old kid scored that goal.”

Dowman’s history-making goal erased the memory of a torturous night for the tension-ridden home team.

Victory looked unlikely as they took their chances, especially in the first half when Everton showed why they have one of the best away records in the league.

While the home team should have been awarded a penalty after Kai Havertz was tripped by Michael Keane in the area, it was the visitors who created the better chances.

Arsenal looked uninspiring but Dowman, who had not even qualified for his GCSE exams, was a game changer when he made his third Premier League appearance.

At a time when names like Eberechi Eze, Declan Rice and Gyokeres were at a dead end, the fearless Dowman produced a cameo that could be decisive in Arsenal’s title fight.
