17 killed, 18 injured in blast at explosives factory in Nagpur

At least 17 people died and 18 people were injured in the explosion that took place in the ammunition manufacturing company in Raulgaon village of Nagpur district of Maharashtra on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to the deceased and said, “The blast incident is unfortunate and tragic. Relief efforts have been stepped up and 17 people have died so far. 18 people injured in this incident have been shifted to Nagpur.”

The Maharashtra government has announced financial assistance of ₹ 5 lakh to the relatives of those killed in the blast at an explosives factory in Raulgaon in Nagpur district.

“Apart from this, the concerned company will also provide financial assistance to their families,” Fadnavis said, adding that a comprehensive investigation has been ordered into the incident.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also informed that teams of NDRF, SDRF, PESO and DISH reached the spot.

According to police officials, the company is stated to be the mining and industrial explosives manufacturer SBL Energy Limited factory where the explosion occurred.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that the explosion incident at SBL Industrial Explosives Manufacturer Company in Raulgaon in Nagpur district was extremely heartbreaking and unfortunate and pointed out that strict action would be taken against the culprits.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed condolences to those who lost their lives

President Droupadi Murmu condoled those who lost their lives in the explosion at a factory in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

In a post in Hindi on channel X, Ms. Murmu said: “I am deeply saddened by the news of loss of life in a factory explosion in Nagpur, Maharashtra. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

PM Modi announced to give ₹2 lakh for free

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled those killed in an explosives factory blast in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh per person from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the relatives of the dead and ₹50,000 for the injured.

“The explosion in a factory in Nagpur, Maharashtra is deeply saddening. I offer my condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local government is assisting those affected,” Mr Modi said in a post on channel X.

“The next of kin of each deceased will be given a tribute of ₹ 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given ₹ 50,000,” the Prime Minister said.
