19-Km Tunnel To Take Water By Gravity To Sundilla From Pranahita-Chevella

Adilabad: Private consultancy firm Aarvee Associates has submitted the Link Canal Alignment Report between the proposed Pranahita-Chevella dam at Thummidihatti in Kautala mandal of Komaram Bheem Asifabad district and Sundilla dam of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project to the state government.

According to the report, more than 19 km of tunnels will be dug to transport water from the Pranahita-Chevella dam to Sundilla through gravity.
It is learned that once the Alignment Report is approved by the state government, Aarvee Associates will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) after examining the geographical and hydrological conditions and making flood calculations.
B. Prabhakar, executive engineer of irrigation department Kagaznagar circle, told Deccan Chronicle that a survey was carried out at the height of 150 meters of the dam. It will draw 122 TMC of water for which permission is required from the Maharashtra government.

Prabhakar said the water will be lifted from the Sundilla dam and fill the Sripada Yellampalli Project using existing infrastructure.

The alignment of Pranahita-Chevella dam will be fixed at 150 meters level. This will take the water by gravity from 76,565 km to 95,865 km through the 19,300 km long tunnel and connect it to the Sundilla dam.

According to sources, 76,565 km of existing canals will be used for this purpose.
