Officials Remove Signboards With Santosh Dabha Name Across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Following directions from a city court, authorities on Sunday started removing signboards of businesses bearing a similar name to ‘Santosh Dabha’ in Secunderabad, Attapur, Begum Bazaar and Abids.

The court order came on a petition filed by Manoj Kumar Sankla, owner of Abids-based ‘Santosh Dabha’, who stated that many eateries were using the brand name to attract customers. The court directed the authorities to seize the properties and remove signboards of outlets bearing the name of the original dhaba.

Lawyer Abhishek, representing the petitioner, said, “We have been following this issue for the last two and a half years. During this period, nearly 50-60 signs were illegally removed from restaurants using my client’s brand identity.”

A solicitor commissioner confirmed that evidence collected from multiple locations would be presented to the court on Monday.

Catering applications list at least five to six dhabas of the same name, with additional prefixes and suffixes, within a radius of about 15 km from the original restaurant. The owner said that action will be taken against those who misuse the brand name.
