2 victims identified in fatal California crash allegedly caused by illegal immigrant

Two of the three victims killed in a fiery truck crash allegedly caused by an illegal alien in Southern California on Tuesday have been identified as an assistant basketball coach and his wife.

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office said two of the victims in the crash were Clarence Nelson, 76, of Fontana, and his wife, Lisa Nelson, 69, and they both died at the scene.

State senator Susan Rubio said: Facebook post Nelson was the basketball coach at Pomona High School in Pomona, California.

“This week our community is deeply saddened by the tragic event that occurred in the City of Ontario,” Rubio said. he said. “It is heartbreaking to learn that the two lives lost were from my district: Pomona High School basketball coach Clarence Nelson and his wife, Lisa.”

“As a teacher, I know how a loss like this affects the entire school community,” she continued. “My thoughts go out to their families, the Pomona Unified School District, and everyone who mourns this tremendous loss.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the school, but officials declined to comment.

The driver, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, is an illegal immigrant from India who crossed the southern border in 2022 and was released by the Biden administration; He is currently accused of causing a semi-truck crash that killed three people.

According to federal sources, Singh was first encountered by Border Patrol agents in California’s El Centro Sector in March 2022 and was released into the hinterland pending an immigration hearing.

Authorities said Singh was arrested on suspicion of gross involuntary manslaughter after driving his large truck into slow-moving traffic on the I-10 Freeway in San Bernardino County.

At least 3 people died and many people were injured in the accident recorded on the vehicle camera. Police said Singh never applied the brakes before crashing into the traffic jam, citing toxicology tests that confirmed the impairment.

DHS sources confirmed that he was not in lawful immigration status and that ICE detained an immigration officer following his arrest.

The incident is the latest involving illegal immigrant truck drivers in the United States.

In a separate case, Harjinder Singh, who illegally crossed the southern border in 2018, obtained a commercial driver’s license in California and was charged with causing a crash that killed three people in Fort Pierce, Florida, in August.

Authorities investigating the wreck said he failed English language and road sign tests.

The crash comes after the Trump administration announced last week that it would withhold more than $40 million in federal highway safety funding from California over its failure to meet federal English proficiency standards for truck drivers.
