23 Injured in clash in Dhaka as Bangladesh prepares for Election | World News

Bangladesh is preparing for general elections on February 12, 2026. The country is facing increasing violence ahead of the election. 23 people were injured during Inqilab Manch protests in Dhaka on Friday. The group demanded justice for Osman Hadi.

The Interim Government, led by Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus, denied that security forces opened fire. The official statement stated that no law enforcement officers opened fire. Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital treated 23 people, including Abdullah Al Jaber, Member Secretary of Inqilab Mancha. None of them had gunshot wounds.

The government has banned gatherings, rallies and gatherings near the State Guest House Jamuna for security reasons. The police dispersed the protesters by using legal means. According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police, they did not use lethal weapons.

The government promised justice for the death of Osman Hadi. Handi was shot in Dhaka’s Paltan area on December 12, 2025. Doctors rushed him to Singapore General Hospital on December 15, where he died three days later. His death sparked violence against media outlets, political sites, cultural hotspots and diplomatic missions across the country.

On Friday, thousands of Inqilab Morcha supporters tried to attack Younis’ residence, Jamuna. Videos showed a heavy police presence. Officers set up barricades and used water cannon, tear gas and stun grenades.

The Interim Government called on citizens to be patient and responsible. He called for a peaceful election.

Polls point to historic step after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in 2024; His party, Awami League, was banned from participating in the elections. This has fueled rivalry between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in key areas.

The International Crisis Group warned of uncertainties, reliability issues and risks of violence in the poll, warning that today’s unrest could harm next week’s vote.
