Reform UK slams council staff feeling ‘unsafe’ due to flag policy – ‘It’s common sense!’ | Politics | News

A new flag flight policy at the Leicestershire District Council has created concern among the staff, and some feel “not safe to be yourself”. Reforms appeared to discuss which flags should be blown in the district hall of England. Council leader Harrison said that the union flag and the district flag will “fly permanently” from two poles in front of the district hall in Glenfield.

If the third pole was found in the district hall on the official tasks, he would exhibit St George’s flag or Lord Lieutenant’s flag. A fourth pole in the inner rectangle will be used to “mark the events such as” Armed Forces Day, the Days of the Society of Nations and the Armistice Day “.

Mr. Harrison said that other banners such as Rainbow flag and disabled folk flag for the month of pride would be transferred to the General Directorate after the consultation with the Council leader during the month of disabled history.

Reform Joseph Boam, President of the North West Leicestershire, said that this was “common sense policy”. He wrote on social media: “Apparently to fly the flag of the union and the flag of St George is now ‘insecure’ and ‘isn’t it discontent?

“We have brought a simple, common sense policy: official buildings, official flags. That’s it.

This decision will not fly in the future, including those who are afraid of LGBT+, disability and bamer groups, flags celebrating their communities.

Mr. Harrison promised to meet with representation groups to resolve his concerns.

A council employee who wants to stay anonymous Leicestershire live: “This is a sign that I’m different ‘and my family is’ different’. We can continue our lives, but we need to hold ourselves.

“I joined the council because I could be myself and I couldn’t spend energy to hide the parts of myself and my family. This meant that I could focus on my work and I could do my best for the Leicestershire people.

“Without flying the flag of the rainbow, the council says: ‘It is not safe to be yourself, you are not welcome here.”
