3 Booked for Bursting Crackers in Wee Hours in Housing Society to Celebrate Women’s Cricket Team Win

Mumbai (PTI): Police have registered a case against three people for setting off firecrackers in the parking area of a prominent residential society in Mumbai’s Wadala area to celebrate the World Cup victory of the Indian women’s cricket team, an official said on Tuesday. An official from Wadala TT police station said that the FIR has been registered against Tuni Lawrence Fernandez and two unidentified friends.

Early Monday, the trio arrived in the building’s parking lot and set off fireworks. He said some of the exploding crackers hit the window panes of some apartment residents.

The security guard of the housing association rushed to the spot and asked them to stop bursting the fireworks. But they started mistreating him and asked him to leave as soon as possible. Community members who refused to burst the crackers informed the local police, who arrived at the scene. However, it was stated that the suspect fled the scene at that time.

In their investigation, the police determined that the defendant Fernandes and his friends, who lived on the first floor of the same building, were drunk at the time of the incident.

The police official added that they watched the women’s cricket World Cup match on Sunday night and started bursting fireworks early on Monday when the team won the match.

He said the case has been registered with relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
