UK protesters march against the rise of political right

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of London for the “March to Stop the Far Right”, with many denouncing Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage’s right-wing UK Reform Party, which is topping the polls.

Nearly 50,000 people attended the Together Alliance demonstration, supported by unions and civil society groups, on Saturday, according to police officials quoted in UK media.

Alongside banners opposing the Reform UK and its anti-immigration stance, pro-Palestinian flags and banners were also held aloft, along with some Iranian flags.

Reform leads Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labor Party as well as other traditional British political parties, according to opinion polls.

Zach Polanski, leader of the Green Party, which also challenges Labor, also attended Saturday’s march.

London’s Metropolitan Police said 25 people were arrested in connection with the demonstration and another pro-Palestinian protest that also took place on Saturday.
