40 pilgrims injured as bus rams into tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau

At least 40 pilgrims, including women and children, were injured when their bus crashed into a tree in Ratanpura area in the early hours of Sunday (March 29, 2026), police said.

The bus was going from Ayodhya to Ballia.

Police said the accident took place around 1.30 am on the Ratanpura-Mubarakpur road under Haldharpur police station when the driver lost control of the bus and crashed into a tree on the roadside.

“The pilgrims were returning home after attending a religious function in Ayodhya when the accident occurred,” a police official said.

The front part of the bus was heavily crushed due to the impact of the collision.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Sanjay Gupta said around 35 to 40 passengers were injured in the accident.

Locals rushed to the aid of the victims and took them to Jogapur community health centre. It was stated that the injured were later taken to Mau Regional Hospital for treatment.

Police reported that the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
