A former contestant My Kitchen Rules The man, who was accused of a number of offenses including dragging the complainant down the corridor and strangling her, was found not guilty.
Anthony Mu, who appeared on the Channel 7 cooking show, was facing charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault.
The accusations were historical in nature and related to children.
Mu was found not guilty of all charges in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
In making his decision, Judge Michael Quinn found there were several differences in the versions of events presented before the court by the complainants and witnesses.
Quinn said some evidence seriously undermined the credibility of the complainants on some parts of the allegations.
In one of the accusations, Mu was accused of attacking the complainant at a concert. A witness disputed the allegation and also testified that he saw the complainant intoxicated and fell, Quinn said.
“In that case [she says] was attacked or threatened by [Mu]In fact, he was so adversely affected by alcohol that years later I cannot be satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt as to his evidence and recollection of what happened,” said Quinn.
In one of the alleged incidents, one of the complainants claimed he was thrown against a wall. Quinn said he found significant discrepancies in his version of events and the evidence given by a witness.
He said the differences were so great that neither version could be accepted beyond reasonable doubt.
Quinn said he expected the complainant to have been seriously injured if the incident had occurred.
In another alleged incident, the complainant claimed that she was dragged down the corridor and strangled against the wall because Mu wrapped his right hand around her neck. Quinn said the complainant said he couldn’t feel his legs when he was strangled and didn’t remember much afterward.
“I am satisfied with this explanation that [the woman] It may describe unconsciousness. [The woman] He describes injuries, tenderness and some bruises on the back of his neck.
“No medical evidence was requested… no photographs of injuries were provided.
“[The woman noted bruises on the back of her neck. I’m satisfied if [Mu] drowned [the woman] If it continued for a period of 30 seconds to a minute as claimed, then… bruising and fingerprint bruising would also be expected to be seen on the front of the neck and the sides of the neck… but this was not claimed. [by the woman].
“I am satisfied with the evidence describing drowning as it does [the woman] “If his evidence is accepted, he is truly lucky to be alive.”
But Quinn said he could not be satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt as to the accuracy of the evidence in relation to this claim.
Before she withdrew her statement, police found another woman, who had actually complained, to be a credible witness.
Quinn said there has been “huge interest” in Mu and Uamaki-Mu appearing on MKR. But Quinn said that wasn’t particularly relevant and “played very little part in my decision here today.”
“Having considered all the evidence, I cannot be satisfied that the prosecution has proven every element of the charges against him.” [Mu] beyond reasonable doubt.
“Accordingly I find [Mu] “I am not guilty of any of the charges against him.”
Outside court, Mu, supported by his family, refused to answer Nine News’ questions.
A witness told a local court in Brisbane last year they saw Mu throw one of the complainants against a wall so that her back hit the bricks behind the plasterboard.
Mu’s attorney, Steve Kissick, told the witnesses they were making up stories, which the witness denied.
In other alleged incidents, Mu was accused of kicking the complainant in the stomach and pushing her down the stairs.
The court previously heard that a colleague later took photographs of the bruises but never formally reported the incidents because he feared for the complainant’s life.
Mu was charged after appearing on a program with her partner Claudean Uamaki-Mu. My Kitchen Rules In 2023.
The pair were introduced by Channel 7 during the show as “a fiery Italian and a very chill Samoan with a heart of gold”.
There was a suppression order against the couple’s identity in the early stages of the case. Many of the charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
