Tiurangadi PSMO College transformed into a rare combination of public life and alma mater as public representatives from Malappuram and Kozhikode districts came together under one roof on Tuesday. What made the meeting special was that all 57 participants were former students of the university.

The institution’s enduring legacy in public service was celebrated at the event organized by the university’s alumni association. The association claimed that no other college in the state could boast of having such a large number of former students currently serving as representatives of the people.

“This will be the first time that 57 former students on one campus will become representatives of the people. This is a matter of pride for both the college and its graduates,” said program coordinator Mujeeb Tanalur.

These included four members of Malappuram district panchayat, presidents of Makkaraparamba, Vengara, Kannamangalam, Nannambra, Tanalur, Kalpakanchery, Peruvallur and Edarikode grama panchayats, presidents of Tirurangadi and Vengara block panchayats, vice presidents of Kondotty and Mankada block panchayats and vice presidents of Kottakkal. The College congratulated all 57 representatives for their contribution to public life. As students, many were active on campus under various political banners. But when they returned to their alma maters, they set aside party lines and came together in a rare show of friendship that transcended political affiliation.

The meeting was opened by MK Bava, chairman of the university management committee. It was presided over by CP Mustafa, president of the alumni association. KT Jaleel, MLA, delivered the opening speech. Mr. Jaleel recalled his student days at PSMO College.

Additional District Magistrate K. Devaki presented his reminiscences. Mr. Tanalur welcomed the meeting.
