Carville warns far-left rhetoric is hurting Democrats ahead of 2026

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville and his co-host spoke Thursday about the dangers of Democrats falling prey to the same far-left rhetoric that has weighed them down in past elections.

Throughout the 2024 election and beyond, Carville has repeatedly told liberals and Democrats to steer clear of divisive identity politics and radical social agendas, warning that they alienate voters and are simply not viable policies.

He and his co-host Al Hunt singled out Texas congressional candidate Bobby Pulido for his public rhetoric during their podcast.

Pulido was widely quoted as offering his fellow Democrats an explanation for why enthusiastic Latino voters were shifting to the right, saying: “People here don’t consider themselves poor — they consider themselves broke. When you’re broke, you say, ‘I’m going to make it tomorrow.’ Democrats treated people like they were poor, not like they were broke.”

Carville said he liked that view, but Hunt praised Pulido’s answer on whether ICE should be abolished.

“He basically said, ‘No, we need to reform ICE,'” Hunt said. “I think the question to eliminate ICE is the ‘Defund the police’ issue of 2026. And the Democrats who are participating in that are giving Republicans an opportunity. And boy, he didn’t do that. He actually answered it well.”

Later in the show, they both praised retired Democratic politician Barney Frank, who had recently been in a nursing home and began calling out the far left for “embracing an agenda that goes beyond what is politically acceptable.”

“I want to tip my hat to one of my favorite people in American politics in my life,” Carville said, summarizing the politician’s advice to Democrats this way: “Keep the goal in mind, you’re trying to help people. Don’t overdo it. Do the things you need to do.”

Carville went on to compare this “wise man” to the “blooming fools of the Working Families Party.” Look at these idiots.

“There’s not a single person living more than 25 miles from the saltwater who identifies with them,” he said, appearing to lean into stereotypes about far-left progressives on the coast.

He claimed that Frank “represents the future and success of the Democratic Party” even though he is 87 years old and likely near the end of his life.
