7.30’s Political Editor Laura Tingle to become ABC’s new Global Affairs Editor
Laura Tingle, a 7.30 political editor of ABC, is leaving the current work program to get a new position as Global Affairs Editor six years later.
Tingle, a Walkley award -winning journalist, will participate in a foreign reporter network, Asia Pacific news room and foreign reporter staff in the middle of the year.
Tingle, one of the most respected journalists in Australia, takes over from John Lyons, who was declared as the new American editor of ABC in February.
Lyons, a former editor of Sydney Morning Herald as Global Affairs Editor, reported for four corners of the Middle East and Iran after the October 7 attacks.
Laura Tingle, depicted on the 7.30 set, is a respected political journalist for more than 40 years.
Tingle said he was “extremely excited” to report his skills about global events that “shaping our nation around the world”.
“I started my journalism career at a time when Australia and the world were challenged and transformed by the release of dregulation forces and global trade.” He said.
“Forty years later, we’re in more uncertain times.
“It is very important that the national public publisher has the eyes of Australian eyes in the world and the importance of great global events into context for local audiences.“
Tingle election, a respected political journalist of ABC for more than 40 years, comes after ABC President Kim Williams speaking about the ongoing international scope of ABC.
In his September speech, Mr. Williams marked the desire to return ABC reporters to China as a “critical center of the world”.
ABC News is currently reporters and seven local reporters based on our region within the scope of the Pacific Local Journalism Network.
ABC News Director Justin Stevens said that Tingle has experience, knowledge and skills that will help viewers understand the extraordinary times we have experienced. “
“International reporting is the cornerstone of ABC news service.” He said.
“We have an extraordinary group of foreign reporters and technical experts and Laura will add more firepower to this intense and productive team.”
ABC News will now advertise for a new 7.30 political editor.
ABC
