‘I’ve been talking about getting older lately. But today he does not age. Wrinkles. ‘The lines around my mouth that I swore I’d never have,’ he thought.
‘The soft crepey skin on my neck seems to have appeared overnight. I didn’t want the mirror to catch me in the light.
‘Some days I don’t care. Other days it feels like a punishment. I eat well. I move my body. I take care of myself. I do things that are said to protect us. And yet… time touches my face.
‘A voice whispers: Why is this? Why me? Why now? I know it’s trendy to say we deserve our wrinkles. This is such a neat thing. This is very nice. And yes…part of me knows this is true.

‘But another part of me feels something deeper. I noticed this. Pain is not related to wrinkles. It’s about identity.’ he stated.
‘Somewhere along the way we start to believe that the mirror is telling us who we are. This youth equals value. That smooth skin equals value. This beauty equals belonging.
‘That’s the lie. Because inside me there is a woman who has never aged a day. He is calm. It’s sparkly. He is grounded. He is sovereign. It doesn’t disappear because my skin is changing. It was never my skin. It’s my rhythm.
‘My breath. My voice when I quit the show. Time changes the body. But the throne does not touch. When I remember this, something softens. I stop fighting the season. I stop punishing myself in the name of nature. I stop confusing appearance with identity.
‘This isn’t about pretending to love every wrinkle. It’s about remembering that there are no wrinkles. This is not what you added. This is what you remove. Eliminate the belief that beauty is youth. Eliminate the fear that aging equals invisibility. Remove the story that your value lives on your face. ‘When there is nothing left to lift, the Queen remains.’

‘Because unless you’re quite ready, unless you’re quite sure, unless you’re confident enough, you never really have to learn what happens when you step forward.
‘You never need to risk being too much. You never have to carry the weight of a life you truly chose.
‘Staying small has a secret benefit that no one wants to admit: It keeps responsibility off the table. So doubt remained. And you allowed it. It’s not because you’re weak. Because you were protecting something. You don’t stop doubting yourself. ‘You are held back by the fear of what might be possible when you stop hiding behind it.’
