8 Killed, 95 Injured as US-Israeli Strikes Hit Iran’s B1 Bridge

Teheran: According to Iranian state media Press TV, at least eight civilians were killed and 95 people were injured following the US-Israeli attacks. The military action specifically targeted the “Bl bridge in Karaj”, causing many casualties in the surrounding area. The victims of the attack reportedly included “Iranian travelers” and “local village residents” who were close to infrastructure at the time of the attack. According to Press TV, this fee included “families who were in the area for Nature Day” at a time when many people were out and about. Following such attacks, President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran was “determined to defend itself against American and Israeli aggressors using all its capabilities,” state broadcaster Press TV reported. This comes a month after the start of a military conflict that Tehran has described as an unprovoked war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian President made these observations during a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev on Thursday. During the meeting, Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran was engaged in “indirect negotiations with the United States” while Washington launched its “strike and bombing campaign.” Detailing the impact of ongoing hostilities, Pezeshkian briefed Aliyev on the destruction of “vital and industrial infrastructures” as well as attacks targeting “schools” and “hospitals”. According to Press TV, the Iranian leader expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani people and government for the “sympathy and support” they showed during the crisis. In response, President Aliyev expressed his hope for the rapid restoration of peace, noting the negative effects of the conflict on regional “security and stability”. Beyond the security situation, the two leaders also explored ways to “increase Tehran-Baku cooperation in various fields.” In parallel with the presidential dialogue, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Filipino counterpart Maria Teresa Lazaro. Araghchi maintained that Iran’s actions “to prevent ships linked to the aggressors from passing through the Strait of Hormuz” were “in accordance with international law,” Press TV reported.

The Foreign Secretary argued that such measures were “aimed at maintaining security in the strategic waterway” and aimed at “preventing further military attacks”. Despite current tensions, Araghchi noted that Tehran maintains a “responsible approach by facilitating the safe passage of non-hostile ships and tankers” through “coordination with relevant Iranian authorities.” According to Press TV, the top diplomat described the “illegal aggression of the US and Israeli regime” as the main cause of “insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz”. During the discussion, Lazaro expressed condolences following the death of numerous Iranian citizens and officials, as well as former Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the current conflict. The Filipino official reiterated calls for an “immediate end to the conflict” and the establishment of “lasting peace and stability.” As the war entered its second month, Press TV quoted Iranian health officials as saying the violence had resulted in the deaths of “more than 2,000 people, including women and children, across the country.”
