Bihar Police has arrested 80 people, including JD(U)’s Mokama candidate Anant Singh, in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party supporter Dular Chand Yadav, a senior police officer said on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Mr. Singh, along with his associates Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, were arrested on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

A Patna court ordered judicial custody for three to 14 days.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna, Kartikeya Sharma said: PTI“We have registered five FIRs so far in connection with Yadav’s murder and other related incidents and arrested 80 people, including Mr. Singh. More arrests are expected as investigations into the FIRs continue.”

Yadav died while campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Patna’s Mokama area on Thursday.

The SSP said that as per the autopsy report, Yadav died of cardio-respiratory failure due to shock caused by a hard and blunt object to the heart and lungs.

“The post-mortem examination report and preliminary investigation indicate that this is a case of murder,” Mr. Sharma added.

Police are closely monitoring candidates contesting the polls, including Mokama.

“A large number of security personnel have been deployed in Mokama area. While 13 companies of the Central Armed Police Force have camped in the area, two units of Special Task Force (STF) and four Quick Response Teams (QRT) of Patna Police have also been deployed,” the SSP said.

Mr Singh was picked up from his home in Barh, about 200 km from Bihar’s capital Patna.

Earlier, DGP Vinay Kumar said: “Strict action will be taken against those who violate the election model code of conduct. Those who take the law into their own hands will not be spared.” Reacting to Singh’s arrest, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, “It was expected… it should have been done earlier. This is the ‘jungle raaj’ in Bihar, murders happen like everything else. Recently, a father-son duo was killed in Ara.”
