Underwater archaeological survey begins off Poompuhar coast after more than two decades

Tamil Nadu Province Archeology Department (TNSDA), in cooperation with the Indian Maritime University, on Friday, once known as Kaveriompattinam in the Mayiladuthurai region, the ancient port city began under the coast of Poompuhar. The last underwater research in POOMPUHAR was in the 1990s.

Following this, the discoveries started on Friday and was directed by an expert team, including a distinguished archaeologist K. Rajan and TNSDA joint director R. Sivanantham. Using advanced equipment, several divers entered the sea to map and document anomalies.
“We have just started in POOMPUHAR. It will last about 10 days because it is the right season for the discovery on the eastern coast. The survey includes the use of side scanning, repercussion water, vehicles operated remotely and sub -profile manufacturers.
