Trump attaches $100,000 fee for skilled worker visa applicants

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will add $ 100,000 (£ 74,000) to the H-1B visa program for talented foreign workers for applicants.

Trump’s order talks about the “abuse” of the program and will restrict the entrance unless payment is made.

Critics have long been argued that H -1Bs have upset the American labor force for a long time, and that supporters, including billionaire Elon Musk, allow supporters to attract the best abilities from the world.

In another order, Trump has set up a new “gold card” for quick visas for some immigrants for a fee starting from £ 1 million.

Trump’s order will come into force on September 21st. US Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick said it would only apply to new demands, but companies will have to pay the same amount for each applicant for six years.

“The company needs to decide … The person should go home to the government a payment of $ 100,000 a year, or they need to go home and hire an American,” he said: “All big companies are on board.”

Since 2004, the number of H-1B applications has been limited to 85,000 per year.

So far, H-1B visas have carried various administrative fees of around $ 1,500.

Data from US citizenship and immigration services (USCIS) show that applications for the H-1B visa for the next financial year have decreased to approximately 359,000, the lowest level of four years.

According to government statistics, Amazon, the biggest beneficiary of the previous financial year, followed Tech Giants Tata, Microsoft, Meta, Apple and Google.

On Friday, Amazon said to stay there to employees with H-1B visas in the USA.

According to an internal consultancy seen by Business Insider, the company said that those abroad should “try to return before the deadline of tomorrow, if possible.”

Anyone who cannot get it back before the order of the order entered into force, “until more guidance is provided” should prevent us from entering again, the company is also specified.

The founding lawyer of the Watson Immigration Law, Fanda Watson said the BBC could be “nails in the coffin” for most of its customers, mostly small businesses and start-ups.

“Almost everyone will be priced. As an entry point, this 100,000 dollars will have a destructive effect.”

“When employers sponsor foreign capabilities, they do so, because they could not fulfill these positions,” Watson said.

Jorge Lopez, President of Littleler Mendelson PC, said that a fee of $ 100,000 will “put brakes on American competitiveness in the technology sector and in all industries.”

Some companies may consider establishing operations outside the United States, but doing so can be practically challenging.

Discussions on H-1Bs had previously caused division of Trump’s team and supporters, and attracted them in favor of visas against critics such as former strategist Steve Bannon.

Trump said he understood journalists at the White House in January that he understood “both sides of the discussion” in H-1B.

A year ago – while the campaign was on permission, while trying to get support from the technology industry – Trump promised to facilitate the process of attracting capabilities more easily enough to propose green cards for university graduates.

“You need a pool to work for companies,” Al-in Podcast said. “You should be able to hire these people and protect these people.”

At the beginning of the first period of 2017, Trump signed an executive order that increases the examination of H-1B applications, which tried to improve fraud determination.

In 2018 financially, the accompanying reached 5% to 8% under Barack Obama and then to the highest level of all times between 2% and 4% under Joe Biden.

At that time, technology pushed companies back and criticized the H-1B order of the Trump administration.

The potential of additional restrictions on the H -1B program has caused significant concern in countries such as India, which is by far the largest source for such visa applications.
