What is an H-1B visa?
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant program established in 1990 and provides US companies to hire foreign professionals in special areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The visa, which was initially released for three years, can be extended up to six years. Although the annual border has been limited to 85,000 visa since 2004, real issuances often exceed this due to exemptions for certain institutions.
In 2022-23 financially, approximately 386.000 H-1B visa application was approved and 72 percent of them were given to Indian citizens. Chinese citizens were a second to 12 percent.
Who will be affected?
The newly upgraded 100,000 USD visa fee will be applied only to new applicants. Existing H-1B visa holders will be exempt-unless they have spent more than 12 months outside the USA, they must return before September 21 or will be subject to new wages potentially.
This triggered urgent measures reported that technology giants, such as Microsoft and Amazon, asked Indian employees to immediately return to the United States.
It is said that Microsoft is currently releasing 24 -hour return notifications to Indian personnel outside the USA and fear of costly delays and uncertain legal interpretations after the new rule has started.
Economic sprinkle
Increased cost burden is expected to reach the most difficult US technology companies based on Indian professionals. On average, an H-1B visa worker earns $ 118,000 a year-now matches almost only the visa fee and increases concerns about financial feasibility.
Data from the US government show that companies such as Amazon, Meta, Apple, Microsoft and Google are among the biggest beneficiaries of the H-1B program last year. New financial forced, companies can greatly reduce the number of foreign workers they hire under this visa category.
Effect on India
This policy change is both a challenge and an opportunity for India. Emergency concern is a potential disruption for approximately 200,000 Indian professionals looking for jobs every year in the US, but also threatens to influence US $ 236 billion in cumulative gains based on the current salary averages. Simultaneously, the last 50 percent tariff made by the Trump administration, estimated 20 Lakh India business and annually exported $ 35 billion -dollar -year -old.
However, it can also be seen as a potential silver primer. With the decrease in US opportunities, a “reverse brain drain” may occur in the innovation centers such as Bengaluru, Haydarabad, Pune and Pride, especially in the innovation centers such as Bengaluru.
Nevertheless, India faces its own obstacles: Inadequate infrastructure in the cities of Level-2, uncertainty around the limited R & D financing and initial capital. In recent months, Trump has brought a 50 percent tariff to Indian exports.
India’s diplomatic response
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs replied that the impact of Trump’s decision was reviewed.
The ministry emphasized the significant contribution of Indian professionals to the US economy and expressed the hope that many American administration would re -evaluate or change the decision of many families to avoid rejecting their lives.
Legal difficulties
Similar to some of Trump’s previous migration and trade decisions, this policy is likely to face legal examination. Critics in the United States compared wage increase with “protection money”. It is seen whether the new visa fee is alive.
