In recent months, a sad increase in the anger of the road, with various violent cases, called for a comprehensive space action by the police and other enforcement cadres in the Kozhikode region. Public complaints from city and rural areas show that small disputes often turn into brutal physical conflicts.
One of the latest events in Kallummel near Valayam contained even a family traveling by a car brushed against a SUV. After a small contact, it was claimed that a group of people stopped SUV, pulled the driver and family members from the vehicle and attacked them. The group was reported to be more than 15 people. A seven -month -old baby was in the car that continued a eye injury smaller than a broken windshield.
In another case, a few kilometers away from the same point was reported, allegedly attacked a family of the bride. The police had a lawsuit and called ten people as the defendant. Other recent events include the attack of a civil defense member in Naduvattam and a private bus driver who was found to drive his vehicle after using Ganga.
“Such incidents reflect a wider issue of decreasing road discipline. Factors that contribute widespread to these events include aggression, crowded participation, group retaliation and disabled driving,“ he says. He points out that the lack of clarity and digital evidence that really leads to a conflict comes as the greatest dilemma for the police.
The data in the state crime registration office officers confirm that there is a significant decrease in the number of traffic accident deaths throughout the state. Compared to the figure of 2023, there was even a 10 % decrease in the number of deaths. However, the number of road anger has witnessed a dangerous increase, revealing that the addition of compiled figures will soon be available for actions.
“Many private buses have started to examine. We continue with our actions at the field level,” he says. However, it clearly demonstrates that legal actions alone will never change the situation without the cooperation of the public.
Officials of the traffic accident form at the state level show that efforts to improve surveillance infrastructure such as cameras are incomplete in some vulnerable places throughout the state. Public and special transport drivers continue to work with limited examination, where the incident response periods are slow.
Manoj Babu, a retired traffic police officer who is influential in the implementation of many model traffic projects from Kozhikode City, said, “A better road map with the cooperation of various enforcement cadres and civilian authorities, the first step that resolves the anger concerns. We do not yet have it.” Increased traffic and urban pressure required existing application strategies to be reviewed and the adoption of better preventive steps.
