Keir Starmer faces backlash after announcing UK recognition of Palestinian state | Politics | News

Sir Keir Starmer was accused of rewarding terrorism after announcing that Britain would recognize a Palestinian state. The Prime Minister said that the movement aims to “revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis”.
However, the US opposed to a large extent symbolic decision, opposition parties and Israel came under fire. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch described it as “absolutely disaster”.
He said: “We will all reward terrorism without any circumstances for Hamas. He leaves hostages in Gaza and does nothing to stop the pain of innocent people caught in this war.”
Reform Nigel Farage, the British leader, said that Sir Keir was “wrong”: “This will not do anything for Hamas terrorists to provide a reward and peace.”
The Prime Minister’s announcement makes similar movements to other nations, including Australia and Canada in front of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) this week.
Today, in a video message, Sir Keir said to know a Palestinian state.
He said: “Today, in order to revive the hope of peace and a two -state solution, I clearly state that Britain officially knows the Palestinian province as the prime minister of this great country.
“More than 75 years ago, the Israeli state is known as a homeland for the Jewish people.
“Today we are participating in more than 150 countries that recognize the Palestinian state.
“A word that there may be a better future for the Palestinian and Israeli people.”
Sir Keir, Hamas is a “ruthless terrorist organization” and confirmed plans to increase sanctions in the group, he said.
“Our real two -state call for a solution is the opposite of hateful visions.”
The United Kingdom’s government admitted that the recognition of the Palestinian state would not alleviate the human crisis in Gaza or would not contribute to the release of hostages by Hamas.
Sir Keir, who faced a labor force Backbenchers and the election struggle from pro -Palestinian independent independent independents, said that in July he would recognize Palestine before the UN meeting if Israel did not take “important steps” to peace in Gaza.
However, Shadow Foreign Minister Dame Priti Patel warned the movement “sending a dangerous message to the world paid by terrorism.”
Daily Express wrote and said: “A Iranian -backed terrorist organization responsible for terrible persecution and collective murder, Hamas continues to control Gaza, refuse fires and keep civilians hostage.
“Hurry to get to know Palestine is now sending a dangerous message to the world that terrorism pays.
“Starmer encouraged a murderer a jihadist regime and reduced Britain’s standing on the global stage. Peaceless recognition is not progress – and this dangerous mistake is an error that Britain cannot meet.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as “ridiculous” and “an award for terrorism only”.
The British Council said that there would be “deep horror” about the announcement in the Jewish community.
In a statement, the Board of Directors said: “As we fear and warned, it did nothing to advance the ceasefire, save hostages, stop the pain of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, or to advance the long -term peace.
He continued: “By reducing the pressure on Hamas and allowing them to be recognized as ‘fruits’ of their violence and uncompromination, they may have brought back these goals.”
The movement will see that Britain temporarily acquires a Palestinian state -centered acquaintance at the borders of 1967 before invading the Israeli Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
It will also pave the way for full diplomatic relations with the Palestinian mission in the UK.
Lib Dem, Sir Ed Davey, welcomed the decision by saying that it was a “historical day”.
“The government now has to do and do its best to provide a two -state solution, which is a ceasefire, a ceasefire, the end of a cycle of violence, and a two -state solution, which is the only way to end a permanent end to the conflict.”
A group of hostage family taken in the October 7 attack warned that recognition could prevent their efforts to release them.
Prior to the announcement, they said in a clear letter to Sir Keir: “Surry to the UK’s intention to recognize a Palestinian state in Unga, it has significant complex efforts to bring our loved ones home.
“Hamas celebrated England’s decision as a victory and made a cease -fire agreement.
“We write you with a simple defense – do not take this step until our loved ones are at home and in our arms.”
The problem will dominate the UN meeting in the coming days, France is expected to officially recognize Palestine tomorrow.
