Polina Agarwal, a Russian citizen who is married to an Indian man, made headlines when he shared the video of a local market in Rajasthan.
The clip shows that a group of traditional folk singer, who not only welcome him, but also call him “Polina Baisa”.
The word “Baisa” is a respectful address for women in Rajasthan.
In the video, Polina greets musicians before sitting with them. They ask the name and start to say these lines: “Bola to Meethe Lauge, Hasi – Pyaro Lagge, Bethodo Sove Mhare Aangney, Saanwari face Jero Janida Mharo, Bethodo Sove Mhara Aangney.” It turns roughly: “The sound is sweet, the smile is fascinating, it illuminates our courtyard with its presence.”
Dressing in simple clothes, Polina does not return to a dedicated melody from dancing to her, singers keep the rhythm alive.
“A Russian Girl in the Rajasthani market” subtitle, the video was viewed more than four million times on Instagram.
