Mo Chara: Terror charge against Kneecap band member thrown out by court

The terrorist case against Kneecap rapper Liam óg ó Hanaidh was fired after a technical mistake as the accusation against him was brought.
The 27 -year -old Belfast musician, who performed as Mo Chara, was accused of exhibiting a flag supporting Hezbollah, a banned organization in November 2024 under the name of Liam O’hanna in May, in November 2024.
He rejected the crime, labeling him as “political policing” and the war in Gaza as “distraction of attention.
A statement published by the group on social media, “We are not a story, genocide,” he said.
In August, Mr. Hannaidh’s lawyer Brenda Campbell Kc said that when the lawyer GGNERAL had faced a terrorist charges on May 21, he did not allow the case to oppose the case.
The next day, consent was given, which the accusation fell beyond the six -month time period in which charges could be brought against a defendant.
On Friday, Woolwich Crown Court, the chief magistrate judge Paul Goldspring, Ms. Campbell.
In his decision, Goldspring said: “These cases were founded illegally and empty.”
He concluded the reasons for his decision and said: um I see that this proceedings are not initiated correctly, deprived of the necessary DPP (Director of Public Prosecutor’s Office) and AG (Chief Public Prosecutor) at the limit of the six -month legal period.
“The time limit requires approved at that time or before the request.
“As a result, the accusation is illegal and empty, and this court has no authority to try the accusation.”
Prosecutor Michael Bisgrove told a court that it was not necessary to get permission from DPP and AG until the first court view of the defendant, and that he did not need to be required to bring criminal accusations.
The Chief Magistrates’ judge rejected the arguments by saying that they were “challenging logic”.
Apart from the court, Hanaidh said that the terrorist case is always related to Gaza.
“It was never about any threat to the people, it was never about terrorism – a word used to discredit the people you crushed by your government.
“He was always about Gaza, what if you dare to talk.”
Northern Ireland’s first minister Michelle O’Neill welcomed the development.
“These accusations were part of an attempt to stand against the Israeli genocide in Gaza and to silence those who speak, X he wrote.
“Knecap used his platforms in stages around the world to reveal this genocide, and it is the responsibility of all of us to continue to speak and stand against the injustice in Palestine.”

“Political policing failed. On the right side of the array history. Not England. Free Palestine.”
The Royal Prosecutor’s Office said that he had carefully reviewed the court’s decision ”.
He pointed out that the decision could be appealed.
