Alcoa announces permanent closure of Kwinana refinery
Alcoa, to determine his future “many studies and analyzes” after Perth’in southern suburbs 60 -year -old Kwinana refinery announced that he will permanently close.
The decision comes after the shortening of production in the field in mid -2014.

“Multiple factors, facility age, scale and operating costs, market conditions and bauxite class challenges, including the decision to permanently close the refinery: Tuesday morning a statement from the company.
Matt Reed, Assistant General Manager of Alcoa and chief Operations Officer, said the closure decision was difficult.
“Alcoa operated the Kwinana refinery in a challenging environment for several years, and after discovering multiple options for a sustainable restart, it has decided to permanently close the facility after a failed discovering.”
“We appreciate the loyalty and support of our Kwinana employees, our contractors and suppliers to the economic development and prosperity of Western Australia for more than six years.”
Reed said that Alcoa will work with the relevant stakeholders to close the refinery and relevant residue storage areas in a safe and responsible way.
The company will also prepare the site for new economic development opportunities and work with the state government on future potential land use options.
Alcoa’s port and associated railway facilities in Kwinana will continue to operate.
