A closer look at Gaston’s 2024-25 student proficiency scores
Recently, the data from North Carolina accountable assessments offered an idea of how competent students are in each school area.
According to tests, 48.4% of more than 41,000 students in Gaston County were accepted as competent at class level.
Here is a closer look at how local students have changed in all matters from 2023-24 academic year to 2024-25.
Maths
At a school board meeting on September 15, Tonya Kales and Kelly Cunningham made a presentation comparing the results of 2024 with 2025 results.
In mathematics, 3-8. The total qualification score of the students in the classrooms in 2025 was 49.8.

Science and Biology
The science test applies only to fifth and eighth grade students. This year, he applied new evaluations and standards for the state science test, so there is no comparison with last year’s points according to Kales.
With the new evaluations, the first year, 55.4% of the fifth grade students and 53% of the eighth grade students received competent scores.
In high school biology tests, 41.2% of the students were competent.
Reading and Language
Reading tests showed that 45.3% of the third eighth grade students were competent and an increase of 1.8 percent compared to last year.

At high school level, 51.8% of the students who received English II were competent, less than last year.
Other areas
One of the eleventh grade students who took the law, a test that evaluates the ready for university, 45.8% is competent, an increase of 14.9 percent compared to last year.
