Majority back calls for noise cameras, stricter MOTs and higher fines to discourage loud cars

The majority of the British would support a major pressure on loud cars, including the use of camera technology to automatically fresh drivers.

In a new report, the majority of the people are tired of disturbing the exhaust of soup engines while trying to watch noisy engines and sleep, television or enjoy their gardens.

A survey of 1,138 drivers found that he wanted to get rid of the ways of bully motors with more tough restrictions in the annual motor test and more tough penalties for people on the steering wheel of extreme loud vehicles.

Three of the five drivers participating in the survey said they were in favor of microphone -equipped noise cameras, such as those installed in some parts of London to automatically define noisy drivers and define them finely.

63 percent supported more strict motor rules in exhaust noise and modifications, even above tightly restrictions that came into force next year.

And even though the police are currently able to finish points for noisy exhausts, 67 percent think that they should be higher to own a home because they are uncomfortable with children’s racers.

Paul Barker, editor of Auto Express, who performs the study, said, ‘Our research shows how strong the people feel about noisy cars, and more than half of the extremely loud vehicles have a direct, negative effect on their daily lives.’

Three of the five drivers participating in the survey are in favor of microphone -equipped noise cameras established throughout the UK to capture the owners of vehicles, especially for aloud.

Since 2016, all new cars are limited to the maximum 72 decibel (DB) noise level when tested for approval before sale.

However, from 2026, the cover will fall to 68db.

It is also illegal to replace an exhaust to make a car higher than the factory approved level.

Nevertheless, due to the presence of a shrinkage of police, many drivers exceed the rules that know that it is not possible to condemn or punish for deafening engines.

Acoustic cameras are equipped with microphones to detect the noise levels of the passing vehicles. When the camera detects a engine or a higher engine or exhaust noise, the camera will automatically record eight seconds in both directions along the road.

Barker said: ‘Although they can be perfectly understandable that drivers want to enjoy their cars – and enjoy the noise they make for most of it – there is a clear difference between responsible enthusiasm and anti -social noise.

‘Majority Support is clear that there is a strong public support for the authorities to move firmly against those who violate the rules with noise cameras, more solid engines and harsh penalties.’

However, the Auto Express chef says that the public will see a gradual improvement in reducing noisy engines on the road in the next decade.

‘Moving to electric vehicles, the average house is around 10db quieter will significantly reduce motor noise,’ ‘he explained.

‘This change, supported by the new home grant and other incentives, will lead to a decrease in general noise pollution in urban areas and will help more drivers to remain within the legal noise limits.’

What are acoustic ‘noise cameras’ – and how do they work?

Since the speed cameras are designed to deter them fast cars, ‘acoustic cameras’ will deter of loud sounds.

Technically, all tools should follow the noise arrangements to use the path legally.

However, these rules can be difficult to apply in practice.

These real time recordings are then sent to executive officers who scan the images to get the look of the plate.

This will then be used to fresh – just like a normal traffic camera accelerating ticket.

Currently, the legal noise limit for road cars is 72 decibels – the equivalent noise of an vacuum cleaner in full explosion. However, this will be reduced from 2026 to 68.
