Bezos says data centres in space likely within 20 years

Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive head of Amazon, estimates that Gigawatt scale data centers will be built in space in the next 10 to 20 years and will perform better than territorial ones thanks to the abundance of uninterrupted solar energy.

The number of enormous centers that storage the calculation infrastructure is growing exponentially as the world is increasingly using more artificial intelligence and cloud information, and provides an increase in electricity and water to cool its servers.

During a chat by Ferrari and Stellantis President John Elkann, during a chat by a fire edge, the Itali Technology Week in Turin “We will start building these giant Gigawatt data centers in space”, one of the things that will happen in the next year is exactly 10 plus years and I will start building the giant Gigawatt data centers. “He said.

The concept of space -based data centers gains traction among major technology companies, because energy to maintain such operations in the world is increasing sharply.

Bezos, “These giant training clusters, they will be built better in space, because there is solar energy, 7/24. There is no cloud and rain, no air.” He said.

He continued: “In the next few decades, we will be able to exceed the cost of terrestrial data centers in space.”

Bezos said that the transition to the orbit infrastructure is part of the tendency to use space to improve life on earth.

“It was already on the air satellites. The communication was already on the satellites. The next step will be data centers and then other types of production.” He said.

However, hosting data centers in space has its own challenges such as limited scope and rocket launch costs for cumbersome maintenance, upgrades, as well as the risk of unsuccessful rocket launches.
