Sanae Takaichi, a 64 -year -old ultra -conservative deputy, has long been preparing to write history as Japan’s first female prime minister to lead the dominant liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

In a country that is constantly low on global gender equality indices, it may seem like a progressive milestone to rise to power. However, many women’s rights in Japan do not celebrate. Takaichi, known as a heavy metal drummer and motorcycle enthusiast with his non -traditional past, is a nationalist who advocates a stronger army, increasing financial expenditures, nuclear energy expansion and tight immigration controls. He also often visits the controversial Yasukuni temple, which honors Japan’s war and remains a source of tension with neighboring China and South Korea.

While preparing to take the rudder, Takaichi has not yet summarized his special agenda as the Prime Minister. Analysts argue that its leadership can bring continuity to Japan’s conservative policy and can test the balance in the ruling coalition, especially with a more moderate corpoito party.
