‘Putin lied to Trump and made him look weak,’ former US envoy to Ukraine says
Russian President Vladimir Putin “lied to Donald Trump”, Russia’s intention to end Ukraine’s full -scale occupation, Trump’s Ukrainian negotiations told his former ambassador Euronews.
Kurt Volker, so “the USA Tomahawks to Ukraine is quite possible,” he said.
On August 19, Trump hosted US President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other EU leaders in the White House just a few days after Trump’s meeting with Putin in Alaska.
After this meeting, Trump said he would hold a meeting between Putin and the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Volker says Putin promised Trump in a telephone conversation.
“Trump was disappointed. Putin promised him that he would negotiate and meet him with Zelenskyy. [Putin] Trump made with European leaders in the White House. He went and made a phone call to Putin, who accepted it at that moment. “

“But Putin lied to him, and now Trump is irritated.”
A few countries offered to host the historical meeting and even offered to arrest Vladimir Putin within the scope of the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court for the kidnapping Ukrainian children.
Since then, the Kremlin has repeatedly rejected the possibility of a face -to -face meeting with Zelenskyy, who was the participation of the President of the United States.
“Trump made it look weak, and Trump doesn’t like to look weak, so now it’s a personal problem for him,” Volker said to Volker Euronews why the US administration is thinking of sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Volker also believes that the discussions on long -range missiles will “again besiege Putin” and “make him make an agreement and Putin does not do this right now”.
In addition, Volker believes Trump’s connection with politics means that it is motivated by selling long -range missiles.

“Trump is processing; it is completely about money and if someone pays, what cares about.”
“If the Russian Ukrainian invasion ends, Trump’s priority is to remove sanctions [on Russia] And make money. “
Opposite narrative in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that in an interview published on October 5, the US-Russian missiles and Ukahawk missiles with the US-Russian missiles will lead to the “collapse of a positive tendency” in the US-Russian relations.
The US -based War Research Institute (ISW) says that the Kremlin is trying to determine the US to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine by associating the US improvements in bilateral relations with concessions from the United States.
“ISW, Putin’s Trump administration to participate in the arms control negotiations to put pressure on the request of the United States, including the demands of Russia in Ukraine, including the US-Russia rapprochement continues to evaluate.” He said.

Putin also threatened the US on October 2, and claimed that American military personnel should directly participate in Ukraine Tomahawk strikes.
Putin claimed that this would be a “new rise phase”, but would not change the battlefield.
ISW, US’s Ukrainian Atacms missiles, F-16 jets and Abrams tanks are thinking of sending similar arguments, he says.
“Putin seems to be called different approaches, from threatening the worsening bilateral relations, to influencing the usefulness of missiles to underestimate the usefulness of the missiles.”
Why does ukraine want Tomahawks
Tomahawk missiles have been on Kyiv’s Battlefield request list for a while. They can strengthen the depths of Ukraine with an operational range between 1,600 and 2,500 kilometers and a strong war title of approximately 400-450 kilograms.
Currently, Ukraine rely on the missiles provided by the west, such as the storm shade, which is limited to about 250 kilometers.
For something else, Kiev uses domestic drones and drone-like missiles such as Palianytsi, but the war title loads are limited to 50-100 kilograms.

So Kyiv believes that Tomahawk missiles can completely transform Ukraine’s deep strike strategy.
In recent months, Ukraine has significantly intensified strikes against Russia’s energy infrastructure.
According to the media -affiliated media, approximately 40% of Russia’s oil refined capacity for gasoline and diesel fuel was stopped by the end of September due to Ukrainian drone attacks.
According to FT, Ukrainian strikes have targeted at least 16 of Russia’s 38 oil refinery since August 2025 and caused domestic fuel shortage in Russia.
