France to ban smoking in parks, beaches, near schools

France has imposed a new ban to reduce the use of tobacco, which is a long -standing problem in the country.

In the coming days, in all schools and bus stops, all schools around and where children can be gathered openly in all French parks and sports venues will be banned.

In a country where smoking was fascinated in cinema for generations and intertwined with national image, government pressure on the use of tobacco was resistant.

“We still have the mentality of saying ‘a law that restricts this freedom’ in France.” He said.

The forbidden “aims to encourage what we call denormalization. Smoking is normal in the minds of people,” he said.

“We do not prohibit smoking, we prohibit smoking in some places where people can potentially affect young people.”

In 2007 and 2008, smoking has been illegal in restaurants, bars and public buildings since a series of prohibitions.

Higher taxes mean the cost of a package now 12 euro (A22 $).

Nevertheless, more than 30 percent of French adults are still smoking every day, one of the higher rates of Europe and globally.

The Ministry of Health is particularly concerned that tobacco will remain popular among young people by showing public health statistics showing that 15 percent of the 17 -year -olds smoke.

Smoking trade is common.

Health Minister Catherine Vautrin said that more than 200 people died in France.

While the ban appeared in a Paris park, the landscapes were mixed.

Natacha Uzan from Paris welcomed the end of smoking in restaurants.

But he said: “Now I think you’re a little repressive in the parks,”.

The wider prohibition is “a good thing” for Anabelle Cell, the mother of a three -month -old child.

“I’m telling myself, oh, it’s not really ideal for him, but there’s not much to do about it or … I don’t get on the bus, I shouldn’t go to the parks.”

The government said last month that the new ban would come into force on 1 July.

The official decree introducing the ban was published on Saturday and the statement of a health minister said that a government order indicating the circles determined by the ban would be published in the coming days.

Electronic cigarettes are exempt from new prohibition.

Other European countries went further: the United Kingdom and Sweden tightened their smoking arrangements in public spaces.

Spain extends the prohibition of cigarettes to cafes and restaurant terraces exempt from the new ban of France.
