Cristiano Ronaldo creates history as football’s first billionaire after signing THIS new contract, Messi far behind

The Portuguese forward has achieved another milestone, but this time off the pitch, as he is now the first footballer to become a billionaire, ahead of Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo has set another record in his illustrious career, this time for his financial stability rather than goals or championships. The Portuguese forward has become football’s first billionaire, valuing his fortune at US$1.4 billion, according to the Bloomberg billionaire index.
According to Bloomberg, Ronaldo’s wealth has entered its index for the first time, and the valuation cements his position as the highest-paid athlete in the sport, surpassing long-time rival Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo’s income has been generated over the years from a combination of high salaries, sponsorship deals and side business endeavors. For the majority of their parallel careers, Ronaldo’s pay in Europe was similar to Messi’s, but the balance shifted when he joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr in 2023.
In addition to the $30 million signing bonus, the transfer reportedly comes with a tax-free package. According to Bloomberg, Ronaldo’s compensation between 2002 and 2023 exceeded $550 million.
Another important factor supporting his wealth is also confirmed. His annual income from a ten-year contract with Nike is about $18 million, and his overall wealth has increased by about $175 million thanks to alliances with companies like Armani and Castrol.
In comparison, Messi’s career pre-tax salary was approximately $600 million. The Argentina star has been promised $20 million a year since joining Inter Miami in Major League soccer in 2023.
Under the CR7 brand, Ronaldo has amassed a business empire from the field that includes hotels, gyms and clothing stores. He is also said to be worth €20 million, including a residence at Quinta Da Marinha, a luxury golf resort close to Lisbon.
And if Ronaldo’s wealth wasn’t enough to prove his worldwide appeal, his social media certainly does. With over 660 million followers, he remains the most followed individual on Instagram, a reminder that his influence and income are unmatched in the world of sports.
