BIS organises stakeholders conclave for industry representatives, researchers in Vellore

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in Chennai organized a stakeholder meeting on “Shared Vision for a Better World: Partnerships for the Goals” in Vellore on Wednesday.
According to a press release, the conclave was inaugurated by Collector VR Subbulaxmi in the presence of SD Dayanand, Senior Director and President, BIS (Chennai) and BJ Gowtham, Joint Director, BIS (Chennai).
Arun Pucchakayala, Director, BIS (Chennai), in his speech, highlighted the role of BIS in formulating national standards and promoting their adoption across sectors. He emphasized the importance of academic institutions and industry in the mission and stated that equipping researchers with knowledge about quality and standards prepares them to be future contributors to the country’s quality ecosystem. Topics such as standardization, certification, testing, training and academic support were discussed in the sessions.
BIS is a statutory body under the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The statement stated that the company runs various programs for the benefit of the industry aimed at consumer protection, including Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artifacts and Laboratory Services.
