7-year-old boy dies in fire at private residential school in Kodagu

In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy lost his life following a fire at a private boarding school in Katageri village near Madikeri on Thursday morning, October 9, 2025.

It was determined that the deceased was Pushpak (7), a resident of Chettimani village and a 2nd grade student of the school.

The fire was noticed while the students were sleeping in their rooms. While several children managed to escape to safety with the help of school staff, Pushpak reportedly failed to escape in time and suffered burns. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Realizing that the child was missing, school staff entered and noticed the tragedy.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Fire and Emergency Services personnel managed to extinguish the fire with the help of surrounding citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Venkataraju, DDPI Basavaraj and Madikeri police visited the spot and assessed the situation.

Parents who heard the news flocked to the school. More details are awaited.
