Tamil Nadu Gramasabais to Decide on Removing Caste Names of Public Places

Chennai: The government has announced that village councils (gramasabai) will meet across the state on Saturday, October 11, and decide on the removal of derogatory caste names given to hamlets, roads, streets, water bodies and public properties, among other issues.
Village councils, which issued a set of instructions to be followed at meetings, were told to identify three basic needs of the people and decide on them after deliberations.
Other issues on the agenda of the meeting include combating dengue by controlling mosquitoes, measures against the Northeast monsoon, various welfare schemes of the Union and State governments such as PMAGY, Thayumanavar, Swachh Bharat and others.
The meetings will also discuss the accounts of various projects undertaken by the villages and their auditing.
