Mother of ‘beautiful’ girl, 8, who died after falling ill at school pays heartbreaking tribute

The mother of the 8-year-old girl who fell ill and died at school said that she “could not eat or sleep” after losing her “beautiful girl”.
Olivia-Grace Huxter was taken to hospital following what police called a “medical incident” at Penrhys Primary School in Ferndale, Rhondda, south Wales, on Wednesday afternoon. The young girl died a short time later.
Her mother, Melanie Huxter, paid tribute to her daughter on social media on Friday, saying she didn’t know “what life is going to look like anymore.”
She wrote on her Facebook page: “My beautiful beautiful girl, I can’t eat, I can’t sleep without you. I’m so grateful that I can hold you and sing you to sleep one last time with your favorite bedtime song.”
“You were wanted, admired, and absolutely adored by everyone lucky enough to know you. I don’t know what life will be like anymore. I love you to the moon and back… Twice.”
In a post published online on Thursday, another family member wrote: “As a family, we wanted to thank you all for your kind messages and love. We are devastated and trying to come to terms with what happened. We wanted people to know there was no mistake and this was a terrible accident. Please respect our privacy as we try to get through this difficult time.”
The school posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon: “Due to the traumatic incident that occurred in our beautiful school this afternoon, we will be closed to all children tomorrow. The school will be open again to children and staff on Friday.”
A South Wales Police spokesman said: “South Wales Police are investigating the sudden death of an eight-year-old girl in Ferndale.
“Emergency services were called to Penrhys Primary School in Ferndale after 2pm on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a medical condition. The girl was taken to hospital and later died.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and the investigation is currently ongoing on behalf of the coroner.”
