Kerala rains: IMD predicts heavy rains in Kerala, issues orange alert in 3 districts

The IMD on Saturday issued an ‘orange alert’ for the day in three districts of the state, predicting heavy rains in several parts of Kerala.

The India Meteorological Department said that the districts under ‘orange alert’ are Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod.

It was stated that a ‘yellow alert’ was given to Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad regions for that day.
‘Orange alert’ means “very heavy” rainfall of 11 to 20 cm, while “yellow alert” means “heavy rain” of 6 to 11 cm.

IMD also said that light to moderate showers and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40 kmph are likely to occur in various parts of the state.

It was stated that a cyclonic circulation was present over the southeastern Arabian Sea and adjoining northern Kerala coast as heavy rainfall and strong winds were likely in some parts of the state from October 11 to 15.
