Harry’s anger as memory of Diana ‘is used as stick to beat Meghan with’

Prince Harry believes Princess Diana’s memory was used as a ‘stick to beat his wife’ during his gaffe-filled trip to Paris last week, friends told The Mail on Sunday.
They say the Duke of Sussex was ‘hurt and upset’ after the reaction he received to a video showing Meghan putting her feet up in the back of a limousine near the Pont d’Alma tunnel, where Diana died in 1997.
The images were criticized for being “deeply shocking” and “incredibly insensitive”, and led to her 48-hour PR blitz during Paris Fashion Week being marred by controversy, including her front row appearance at the Balenciaga show in support of designer Pierpaolo Piccioli.
It is understood the Duchess, 44, did not know where the car was and friends said it was ‘very difficult’ to suggest she went through the tunnel on purpose.
Harry, who has not spoken publicly about the fight, is said to be ‘despondent but not surprised’ by the barrage of criticism his wife has faced.
A friend of the couple said: ‘Harry was hurt and upset. Diana’s death was used as a stick to beat his wife. [Meghan] He didn’t even go near the tunnel.
They added: ‘This is all a joke but it’s not very funny to Harry.

Critics noted that after crossing the Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris (pictured), he headed towards the Pont d’Alma, close to where Princess Diana died in 1997.
‘He was hurt, but the depressing thing was that he wasn’t that surprised. ‘He was more despondent than shocked.’
The friend said the furor surrounding the trip, which she hoped would be a flawless debut for Meghan on the fashion social scene, was so toxic it ‘came down like a bag of colds’.
Last night a source insisted Meghan wore a seatbelt on her trip to Paris, unlike Diana in 1997.
Instead of taking note of her progress as she headed to the £2,500-a-night Hotel Plaza Athenee, the Duchess was actually distracted creating a stylish Instagram reel of breakfast trays, Eiffel Tower views and make-up prep.
