Eric Decker says NY Jets probably ‘cursed’ after their winless start to season

The New York Jets remain the only winless team in the NFL, despite all the positive points new head coach Aaron Glenn wants to make to the press and fans.
Ahead of the Jets’ 37-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week, Glenn said their last practice before the game was one of their best. Earlier this week, he praised the team for the bonding players had at their hotel in London as they prepared to face the Denver Broncos.
The Jets’ playoff drought will reach a 16th consecutive season, and at this point “it probably feels like there’s a curse,” former Jets wide receiver Eric Decker said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

But it wasn’t always like this.
Decker spent three seasons with Gang Green, and in his second season they went 10-6 but missed the playoffs. During that season, Decker didn’t harbor any “cursed” feelings and actually reflected fondly on his time at East Rutherford.
“The teams I was on, we had a good roster, we had a chance to make the playoffs, and we lost it ourselves. It was crazy to win 10 games and not make it. But I think everyone in the facility was involved and did their part and gave the players that opportunity,” Decker said.
“No, I didn’t feel like that. I didn’t feel like, ‘Here we go again; it’s the Jets’ or this aura. Those are the things that come together little by little in the NFL. Those are the deciding factors.”

“They’ve got a pretty good team and I like that coach. It’s all about mentality, from the outside it looks like it needs to be changed, but when you’re inside you don’t have that thought process.”
Glenn definitely has that mentality, but the results aren’t there. But Decker believes the Jets just need to control the “controllables.”
“In today’s football culture, if you don’t perform right now, we move on. That’s a lot of pressure for the coach and the players. When guys don’t show up on time or don’t do enough, a lot of that can be controlled. That’s a red flag. ‘What’s going on internally? There’s clearly a lack of leadership or a change of that nature,'” Decker said.
“But if the players are doing the right thing and giving 100%, the performance is a little more difficult because it’s not as controllable.”

“I think it will transform,” he added. “It’s just a matter of having someone lead that responsibility at the helm.”
