Two children found dead inside home named as woman arrested on suspicion of murder | UK | News

A girl and a boy at the center of a murder investigation in Stafford have been named by Staffordshire Police. Police said two-year-old Meraj Ul Zahra and three-year-old Abdul Momin Alfaateh were found injured and unresponsive at a house on Corporation Street on Sunday morning, October 12.
Despite all the intervention of the emergency service, it was determined that the children died at the scene. Relatives have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A 43-year-old woman from the Stafford area, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, remains in custody while investigations continue.
There is also a police cordon on Corporation Street.
Staffordshire Police said the incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is routine, following previous police contact.
Police were called to the home by West Midlands Ambulance Police at around 7.30am.
Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield, of Staffordshire Police, said earlier today: “We are working hard to better understand the events that led to these two children tragically losing their lives.
“We would ask people not to speculate at this stage as it is distressing for family and friends and could hinder our investigations.
“We understand this incident may cause concern in the local community. We do not believe there is a wider threat to the public at this time.”
Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact 101 or via Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website, quoting incident number 147 of 12 October.
To make an anonymous report, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
It was stated that the ambulance service was called to a private address at 7.26 am and sent two ambulances and two paramedics to the scene.
A spokesman said: “On arrival of ambulance personnel we discovered two patients, both children. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene.”
