Kerala Film Producers Association to Take Up Issue of Censor Cuts: Listin Stephen

Kochi: The issue of censorship of scenes considered normal in Kerala will be raised with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) secretary Listin Stephen said on Sunday.

Listin told reporters at a film event here that it is not a healthy trend to restrict or blur some scenes in films that are common and acceptable to the people of Kerala.

He said the CBFC’s recent directions to censor scenes depicting beef consumption and rakhi-wearing from a Malayalam film were inappropriate.

Normally, filmmakers and writers are aware of the rules and avoid controversial content during production. But now the situation has become unpredictable; He added that when we wanted to get a certificate, we didn’t know which scenes would be marked.

Listin also said that the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce has also decided to take up the matter. “We will discuss the issue with other film organizations and take the necessary measures,” he said.

Recently, it was reported that CBFC has suggested cuts and changes in 15 scenes in the movie ‘Haal’ starring Shane Nigam.

The producer (Juby Thomas) and director (Muhammad Rafeek) of the film approached the Kerala High Court over the delays in the CBFC’s certification process. PTI
