On Monday evening, October 13, 2025, more than 25 singers, including professionals and amateurs, gathered at Athani near Nedumbassery to eliminate the drug menace.
This unique musical event was organized by the Ernakulam Rural police as part of an initiative to build what they call public resistance against the growing drug menace.
The karaoke event, planned to raise awareness about the increasing drug trafficking incidents in the region, will continue until October 18. Police officers from Aluva District and Ernakulam rural district will participate in the event, which will be held between 5 pm and 9:30 pm. Police said those interested in singing can participate by registering at the venue.
Police installed a sound system at a stage at Athani Airport Signal Junction for the programme. Important names will attend the program every day.
District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha inaugurated the event. “The event aims to use the powers of music to save society from the influence of toxic substances,” he said. Playback singer Joby John was the chief guest. Deputy Superintendent of Police TR Rajesh gave the opening speech. Additional Commissioner of Police M. Krishnan and District Secretary of Police Officers Association MV Sanil also spoke.
Rural police recently organized a film screening for migrant workers in Perumbavoor and surrounding areas, aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse.
