Young Brit partying in Ibiza found dead in hotel room after feeling sick | UK | News

A 20-year-old man who was on a party holiday in Spain with his wife was found dead in his hotel room after leaving a popular nightclub feeling ill, an inquest heard.

Stan-Lee Connor headed to Ibiza for a six-night holiday with his friend on Tuesday, July 1 this year, but appeared to fall ill on the second evening of their getaway.

The pair were at the famous nightclub Amnesia when Stan, as he was known to his loved ones, consumed MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and became ill. She and her friend then took a taxi from the popular venue to their accommodation, Aparthotel Vibra Monterrey, around 3 a.m.

Liverpool and Wirral Senior Coroner Andre Rebello heard evidence from assistant coroner Catherine Gray describing how Stan, from Birkenhead, had taken a shower when his friends returned to their hotel. Stan remained awake while his friend dozed, waking at 9 a.m. to discover Stan, described as yellow-looking and “unresponsive on the floor on his left side.”

He ran to reception for help and an ambulance was called. At 9.15am on July 3, Spanish police officers arrived and entered the room and found Stan unresponsive on the floor.

The inquest today Monday heard a toxicology report revealed that Stan had consumed MDMA, cocaine and aspirin, resulting in cardiological death.

Upon hearing the news of Stan’s death, his mother Tammy and sisters Ellie and Sally visited Birkenhead Police Station and reported that he had died in Spain. Merseyside Police launched an investigation, working with Spanish authorities, but there is no evidence to suggest any criminal activity took place.

Mr Rebello confirmed there were no signs of violence between Stan and his friend. Liverpool Echo.

A post-mortem examination at Arrowe Park Hospital after Stan’s body was brought back to the UK determined that his death was caused by mixed drug poisoning containing MDMA, cocaine and aspirin.

During the hearing, Stan’s mother disputed the scope of the investigation and questioned the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. But Mr Rebello said: “There is no evidence in the Spanish police report and the Merseyside Police report that any drugs were forced on Stan-Lee.

“I will conclude that Stan-Lee died of a drug-related death. Drugs caused his death.”

Honoring her brother outside the Gerard Majella Courthouse, Stan’s sister Sally said: “We want to celebrate Stan. His funeral was wonderful and a celebration. Everyone came, it was a beautiful day, the sky was blue, the sun was shining.”

A tribute from the family sent to the ECHO by his sisters Ellie and Sally earlier this year said: “We have lost our kind-hearted, beautiful little brother and son, Stan-Lee Connor, whose heart overflowed with love and whose life held so much promise. His sudden and heartbreaking death in Ibiza, aged just 20, has left an immeasurable void in our lives.”

“Stan wasn’t just our brother, he was the light of our family. He brought warmth, laughter and kindness wherever he went, and his presence made everything brighter.

“Stan was a proud and passionate supporter of Everton Football Club, loyal through every triumph and every heartbreak. He also found deep solace in music, especially the timeless sounds of Pink Floyd. His lyrics became a lifeline, especially after the heartbreaking loss of our father last year. Music gave Stan strength, and in those melodies he began to find his way to peace.”

Ellie, 28, told the ECHO how Stan had recently found himself accommodation and started a new role at a manufacturing facility.

He explained: “He bought a flat for the first time, was taking driving lessons and had just bought his first car.

“He had a new job and everything was going well. He was just starting his life properly, but he never had the chance.”
