Vicente Modahl: Ex-Olympic athletics coach accused of child sex offences

Former British Olympic athletics coach Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl has been charged with child sexual offenses, the Crown Prosecution Service announced.

Leiva-Modahl, 65, the wife of former Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, is due in court Tuesday on 19 counts, including sexual assault of a child, rape, control and coercive behavior.

The CPS said all the charges relate to the same woman between 2012 and 2024.

This follows Greater Manchester Police’s investigation into Norwegian national Leiva-Modahl, also known as Vicente Modahl.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Vicente Leiva-Modahl for a number of serious sexual offences, including offenses related to the sexual exploitation of children,” deputy attorney general James Bolton-Smith said. he said.

“Our prosecutors worked to determine that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial and that it was in the public interest to pursue criminal prosecution.

“We worked closely with Greater Manchester Police as they carried out their investigation.”

Leiva-Modahl will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
