Nut allergy fears prompt urgent M&S recall

Marks & Spencer has issued an urgent recall for a popular chocolate snack over concerns it contains undeclared allergens.
Customers with nut allergies have been urged not to eat the retailer’s milk chocolate honeycomb packs due to the possible presence of peanuts, which are not listed on the label.
The affected products are 120 gram snack bags with lot number 5242 and barcode number 0917568/29143603 with an expiration date of May 12, 2026.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said M&S had recalled the product and its members were advised to contact relevant allergy support organizations who would advise them of the recall.
“If you purchased the above product and are allergic to peanuts, do not eat it,” the FSA announcement read.
“Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund. For further information, please contact Marks & Spencer on 03330 148555.”
The company also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers explaining why the product was being recalled and telling people what to do if they purchased the product.
The retailer apologized to shoppers, saying: “Customer safety is of the utmost importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all matters relating to the production of our food extremely seriously.
“M&S is recalling milk chocolate honeycombs out of an abundance of caution due to the possibility of a small number of packs containing undeclared peanuts.”
The snacks combine a “velvety milk chocolate coating” with a “light and airy honeycomb center that melts on the tongue,” the retailer says on its website.
Earlier this week, Aldi recalled tubs of ice cream it sold because it did not list the allergen on the label.
The supermarket is recalling Gianni’s cheeky monkey ice cream because it contains unlisted wheat.
This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with celiac disease or a gluten allergy.
