Wayne Rooney doubts Marcus Rashford’s ‘inconsistent environment’ claim

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney does not believe the environment is to blame for Marcus Rashford’s lack of consistent performance for the Red Devils.
Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances and won five major trophies since making his debut for United in 2016.
He scored 30 goals in all competitions in the 2022-23 season, but has since failed to match that form and fell out of favor, spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Rashford is currently flourishing on loan at Barcelona and in a recent interview, he said: “it’s been an inconsistent environment for too long.”, external
But speaking on the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney said: “I don’t think the environment is right but that’s up to you.
“I think if you’re not playing well or you’re left out of the team then it’s easier to blame the environment and whether that’s right or wrong. I think it comes down to how you apply yourself.”
“The games we saw with him, where we knew he could do more, we knew he could run more, it has nothing to do with the environment.
“I could be wrong here, I really love Marcus as a kid and as a person, but I think that’s an easy thing to throw at people.”
