Thousands flock to The Everest, Caulfield Cup as spring racing season kicks off

Thousands of Sydneysiders and Melburnians flocked to Royal Randwick Racecourse and Caulfield Racecourse to celebrate the start of the spring racing season.

Nearly 50,000 punters packed Randwick racecourse on Saturday and raced through the gates to find the perfect spot to watch one of the country’s most iconic races, the Everest.

This year’s participants, with approximately 50,000 people filling the race course, will also be among the youngest participants, with 60 percent of them under the age of 26.

Those who break the rules show some skin

Since the majority of participants are under the age of 26, it is no surprise that some rules are broken.

The punters went all out in their dresses, breaking the traditional spring race dress code by showing off some skin with high slits and low-cut skin.

Draped dresses and silky, floral fabrics were some of the most popular choices; There were lots of bright colors to match the energy of the crowd.

There were many cut-cut dresses on the field today, some participants replaced their long dresses with mini dresses.

Hats thrown out the window

Unlike the Melbourne Cup, where headgear rules prevailed, heads were mostly bare on the racetrack; attendees swapped their hats and fascinators for slick-backed donuts and green hats handed out at the doors.
