Trump releases video of US destroying drug sub carrying fentanyl in Caribbean

A U.S. military strike destroyed a “massive drug-carrying submarine” in the Caribbean this week, killing two suspected narcoterrorists and capturing two others alive, President Donald Trump said Saturday and released video of the attack.

In a statement Posted on Truth SocialTrump said the ship was carrying mostly “fentanyl and other narcotics” toward the United States via a “well-known drug smuggling transit route.” He claimed that the ban prevented as many as 25,000 Americans from dying from overdoses.

“It was my great honor to destroy a very large submarine carrying medicine,” Trump wrote. “US Intelligence confirmed that this ship was filled mostly with Fentanyl… There were four known narcoterrorists on board. Two of the terrorists were killed.”

“The two surviving terrorists are being returned to their countries of origin, Ecuador and Colombia, for detention and prosecution.”

Fox News had previously confirmed that two survivors of the attack were rescued by the US Navy and were being held aboard an American warship. Trump’s statement was the first statement in which the identities and nationalities of these people were officially acknowledged.

The strike was the sixth U.S. interdiction of a ship suspected of drug smuggling since combat operations began in the Caribbean last month. The Pentagon did not publicly disclose the name of the operation.

Trump first mentioned the strike in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday.

“We attacked a submarine, and it was a drug-carrying submarine, specially built to transport large amounts of drugs,” he told reporters.

Speaking separately Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not dispute the presence of survivors but said more details would be released later.

Earlier this week, Trump confirmed that he had authorized CIA activities in the region. US Air Force B-52s carried out a visible “show of force” mission near Venezuelan waters on Thursday.
