Karnataka invites ETH Zurich’s quantum pioneer to next Quantum India Summit in Bengaluru

:

The state government has deepened its international scientific relationship with ETH Zurich, one of the world’s leading institutions in quantum science and technology, by visiting the ETH Quantum Center and inviting its leaders to attend the Quantum India Summit 2026 in Bengaluru.

Minister of Science, Technology and Minor Irrigation, NS Boseraju, met with ETH Quantum Center directors Andreas Wallraff, Jonathan Home and Klaus Ensslin during his visit.

According to the statement made by the ministry office, professors have been leading research on superconducting qubits and trapped ion systems for more than twenty years.

The Minister, Prof., who is considered a global pioneer in quantum computing. He extended a personal invitation to Wallraff to join and contribute to the next edition of Quantum India Bengaluru.

“ETH Zurich is among the birthplaces of modern quantum computing, where the world’s fundamental research in quantum science is evolving into real, working technology. It is a privilege to combine Karnataka’s emerging quantum ecosystem with such world-class expertise,” said Mr. Boseraju.

The Karnataka delegation toured superconducting qubit laboratories and trapped ion laboratories to gain insight into how the ETH Quantum Center coordinates research across Switzerland through a collaborative model. The Minister noted that Karnataka will take inspiration from ETH’s approach to create a similar structure in Bengaluru under the Q-City initiative, enabling joint research and innovation between institutions in Karnataka and India.

The ETH team also demonstrated how technologies from these laboratories have developed into successfully developing quantum start-ups. The delegation visited Zurich Instruments, a subsidiary of ETH Zurich, which manufactures precision amplifiers and signaling systems for quantum computers worldwide, including India.

“Q-City Bengaluru will establish comparable infrastructure to support quantum hardware development and support global-scale start-ups emerging from Karnataka’s growing innovation ecosystem,” the Minister stated.
