Ex-Bucs star Doug Martin dead at 36

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Doug Martin has died, his family said Sunday. He was 36 years old.

Martin’s family released a statement FOX Sports confirms his death. TMZ Sports first reported that the former NFL player had passed away. The cause of his death is unknown.

Martin’s family said, “It is with great sadness that I inform you all that Doug Martin passed away on Saturday morning. The cause of death is unconfirmed at this time. Please respect our privacy at this time.” he said.

The former Boise State standout was the 31st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The California native made an instant impact when he took the field for Tampa Bay.

He played in all 16 games in his rookie season, rushing for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had a breakthrough against the Oakland Raiders, where he rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl honors that season.

Martin played most of his career with the Buccaneers. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2015. In 2018, Martin played for the Raiders and had 723 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
